Lifeguard

Maintaining active surveillance of the pool area, Camp Kum-Ba-Yah Lifeguards will provide a safe environment during summer camp swim lessons and membership swim time. This position will consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and will respond to emergency situations immediately. We are accepting applications for the upcoming season for certified lifeguards. We also welcome applications from strong swimmers who would like to be lifeguard certified. Our pools will be open from late May to early September. Pool hours will be Monday through Friday 2 pm to 8 pm, Saturday 10 am to 8 pm, and Sunday 1 pm to 8 pm.

International Counselors

Each summer, Camp Kum-Ba-Yah welcomes international counselors from around the world. In recent summers, we have had international counselors from Trinidad, Germany, France, Egypt, Netherlands and Kenya! International counselors are hosted by local families, and we are always seeking families willing to share their home with these special friends.

Summer Camp Counselors

The heart and soul of any camp are its counselors. In this critically important position you will provide leadership and instruction in one or more specific camp activities and maintain a positive attitude towards others at camp. A highly flexible and can-do attitude are a must. The best counselors are energetic and love interacting with campers. Being a counselor requires being outdoors all day, so a comfort level with this is imperative.

ARTS & CRAFTS DIRECTOR

Put your creative talents to use and oversee a variety of nature based arts and crafts activities. The Arts and Crafts Director will plan, direct and supervise camp’s arts and crafts program while encouraging respect, sensitivity and understanding for individuals and the natural environment. This position will be responsible for curriculum design, ordering of materials and equipment, teaching and monitoring proper use of equipment, end of season inventory and assisting with overall camp activities regarding the creative arts.

ROPES COURSE DIRECTOR

Camp Kum-Ba-Yah boasts three zip lines, a climbing wall, leap-for-life element and a postman’s walk. The Ropes Course Director is responsible for organizing, supervising and implementing a safe and fun high ropes experience. This position will maintain inventory and organize all adventure program equipment while displaying solid leadership for staff and campers. Certification through Inner Quest and one year previous experience as a ropes trained counselor is required.

WATERFRONT DIRECTOR

The Waterfront Director oversee all the happenings and planning of activities at Long Lake to ensure a safe, fun and age appropriate experience. Campers will canoe, kayak, fish and explore along the lake.

ARCHERY DIRECTOR

Our experienced Archery instructor is responsible for the supervision of campers, providing archery-specific instruction, creating a safe and fun learning environment and serving as a positive role model for campers.

 
CIT program director

CIT PROGRAM DIRECTOR

The CIT Program Director works closely with the Camp Director to develop, plan and implement a 7-week Counselor In Training program for campers, ages 14-15, that is consistent with the CIT program goals. This position will role model positive and appropriate behavior, build positive relationships with CIT that develop and promote their growth as young leaders in the camp community.

Aquatics Director

Camp’s Aquatic Director is responsible for oversight and maintenance of the CKBY pool, equipment and supervision and training of personnel. Camp Kum-Ba-Yah’s pool has a rich history providing campers with quality swim lessons and skill development. It is the responsibility of the Aquatics Director to execute a safe, high quality instructional swim program.

Pool Manager

The Camp Kum-Ba-Yah Pool Manager participates in both the summer camp program and CKBY’s summer pool membership program. During the camp day the Pool Manager will assist the Aquatics Director in providing safe, quality and fun instructional programming for campers. After day camp hours, the Pool Manager supervises and schedules the lifeguard staff, ensures compliance with all rules and regulations of the Department of Health, American Camp Association and the American Red Cross. It is the responsibility of the Pool Manager to implement systems to ensure patron safety while enjoying the pool and fostering positive relationships and a welcoming environment at CKBY’s pool.

Commissary (Food Service)

Reporting to the Director of Camp Kum-Ba-Yah, this position is responsible for the quality, quantity and timeliness of that day’s meal production. This position purchases and prepares the food in accordance with camp’s vegetarian recipes, standards and procedures under strict sanitary conditions.
